The second day July 2nd, 1863

In late June Robert E. Lee and General Joseph Hooker set up defensive positions around the town Gettysburg. During this time there were many attacks against each other, also General Stonewell jackson one of Lee's best leader's got shot by one of his own men. At this time there was a lot more solider's of the Union than the Confederacy because the Union was from the North which had more industry.
Pickett's charge July 3rd,1863
Go we've weakened their defensive position!!!
On July 1st, 1863 one of the bloodiest battles happens in US history. The Battle of Gettysburg happened near the town of Gettysburg in Pennsylvania. At this time General Robert E. Lee was unaware that the union was close by to the confederacy. The battle began and the Union regrouped at Cemetery Ridge where the Union set up an excellent defensive position against the Confederacy.
Death in the Civil War
My friends are all dead.
On the second day of the battle of Gettysburg the confederacy led a series of attacks against the Union. While they keep attacking the Union which resulted till nightfall. The Union also still held a really good defensive position on Little round top. As the Confederacy kept fighting they desperately tried to take Cemetary Hill and Culps hill.
The Gettysburg Address
I'm here today to give my respects to all that have fallen in this war.
After a few days of fighting the Union laid off which made the Confederacy think that they had weakened the Union line and then General George Pickett lead a attack called Pickett's Charge. Pickett's charge was one of the worst failure's for the Confederacy because most of the men died trying to break through the Union defense line at Little Round Top. George Pickett lead around 15,000 men and after the charge there was around 7,500 casualties.
At the end of the Battle of Gettysburg there was more deaths in any battle in the civil war. There was around 23,000 people had died for the Union and a third had died for General Robert E. Lee's army. The Battle Of Gettysburg was one of the more important battles because it had weakened the Confederacy troops and it had gave the Union a fighting chance. This was also a turning point for the union because Lee would never launch a attack in the north ever again.
The Gettysburg address was a speech that Abraham Lincoln gave to honor the Union troops that died fighting for the country. Some people were upset that the speech was around 2 to 3 mins long. After he gave the speech he started working on the Emancipation Proclamation to abolish slavery.
