  • The quartering act was an act which forced the colonists to provide a home to the soldiers and provide them with food, fuel, candles, and transportation.
  • The Boston tea party
  • This act caused colonists to pay tax on printed paper such as newspapers,  marriage licenses and playing cards. To prove that the tax was paid, most pieces of printed paper showed a big, blue stamp.
  • The Intolerable acts
  • C,mon!
  • On March 5, 1770, a British soldier was standing guard  and a crowd came and started calling him names and throwing stones and snowballs.  Then another troop came and in the confusion started firing. 5 colonists died and 6 were wounded.
  • Nooooo!
  • Ow.
  • Don't fire!
  • In 1773, the parliament passed the Tea act so the British East India Company was the only company that could sell tea in the colonies. On December 16, 1773, some patriots dressed up as native Americans and climbed on the tea ships and dumped 90,000 pounds of loose tea in the water. They damaged nothing but the tea.
  • Damage only the tea!
  • The parliament wanted to punish the colonists by passing several new laws.  One law was the Boston Port Act, which closed the Boston harbor preventing ships entering or leaving the harbor until the lost tea was payed for. Other colonies tried to help Boston by sending them money, food and supplies. In September 1774 leaders from 12 colonies got together to discuss and establish the first continental congress.
  • Boston harbor closed!
  • How will I get back to England?
