This scene is significant because it is describing all the different things that they are seeing while in the high waters. Also, how they are seeing all the other animals that are trying to get to high grounds, or at least somewhere out of the water.
When they are in the tree, and they see the bear, all the snakes, and they have the pigs down below, that's significant because it shows that they have a lot of difficult things that they have to avoid, in order to stay alive.
This scene is significant because it shows how this is making things more difficult for Cort and Liza, because they have to carry Francie through all this. That makes it difficult because it makes it harder for them to move through the water, and just the fact that they have to take care of her all by themselves.
