  • The external conflict is when the kids lock Margot in the closet, go play in the sun, and forget that she was in the closet.
  • "The children lay out, laughing, on the jungle mattress and heard it sigh and squeak under them, resilient and alive". The author used this to show how the ground was squeaking and sighed as the children were jumping and laughing on top of it.
