Storyboard Text

  • A couple days later...
  • An infestation of cockroaches appears in the home.
  • The homeowner sprays the cockroaches with a pesticide.
  • 2 Weeks Later...
  • The two that survived had a mutation that allowed them to be resistant to the pesticide. This mutation gives them the best opportunity to grow to the reproductive age (Differential Reproduction)
  • A few days later...
  • These two reproduce and that allows for the mutated gene to be passed on to offspring (Darwin’s 2nd Conclusion=traits passed from parent to offspring)
  • The selective pressure in this situation is the pesticide. The pesticide causes change for evolution. The offspring survive the pesticide application and go on to reproduce
  • They continue to reproduce and this creates a change within the gene pool. This is the driving force for evolution. This is an example of microevolution.
