It's not right for the woman to have the job while the man stays home, letting the kids run the streets and get into trouble!
Lizabeth and her brother's friend found Mrs.Lottie planting her marigolds. She did not like that such beautiful things were planted at such an ugly house. This angered Lizabeth so she taunted Mrs. Lottie and encouraged the other kids to do the same.
LIzabeth heard her dad stessing about how he doesn't have a job. This stressed Lizabeth and made her angry. She didn't know how to deal with her stress!
Lizabeth felt compassion and guilt for taking her anger out on Mrs. Lottie. This was the first time she ever saw her as a poor lonley old woman who had nothing but her marigolds. As years went on, Mrs. Lottie passed away and Lizabeth planted marigolds of her own.
