Authority Figures in The Catcher in the Rye
Hi, my name is Holden Caulfield and I'm the main character from "The Cather in the Rye" by J.D. Salinger. In this novel I have some authority figuers throughout the novel.
Scene 1: Mr.Spencer and Holden in Mr.Spencer's room.
"You choose... would you care to hear to what you had to say"
""No, sir, not very much," he read it anyways."
Scene 2: Mr.Antolini and Holden in Mr.Antolin's living room.
"Something else an acedemic education will do for you.iF you go along with it any considerable distance."
"You and Mrs. Antonlini really saved my life tonight"
Authority figures are people with more power or have more authority than someone else.
In this scene Holden is kind of forced to listen to what Mr.Spencer has to say because he tells him that he is going to read his paper even when Holden tell him he doesn't want to.
In this scene Mr. Antonlini gives Holden advice about why he should apply himself to his studies and he recognizes that Holden is differnet from other students.
