Hi! I'm Saint Teresa of Avila and this is my life story: I was born on March 28, 1515.
In 1535, I entered the Carmelite Convent of the Incarnation at Avila. In two years, I became sick. While I was ill, I started to love mental prayer. Affter I recovered, I stopped praying. This went on for 15 yeras, I was in between worldly and divine spirit.
In 1555, I had a shift in consciousness. I began to think about restoring Carmelite life to the original ways of strictness in 1558. My reform involved complete removal. We needed to have a prayerful life of penance. With Pope Pius IV's permission, I opened the first convent of the Carmelite reform.
In 1567, John Baptist Rossi allowed the reform, and I founded more convents and established monasteries. I eventually met St. John of the Cross and he opened the first Carmelite Reform for men. I spent the rest of my life tending to 16 convents. In 1575, I was forced to stop founding any more convents.
With the help of King Phillip ll of Spain and Pope Gregory Xlll, I resumed the reform. While I was still ill, I made many journeys and tiring missions.
Later in life, I wrote many spiritual writings. Today I am known as a great mystic, religious women and the creator of the Carmelite Reform.
