A preacher and his wife and daughter Amy move into Bad Camp Hollow Virginia in the Blue Ridge Mountains hoping to rid the place of the evils of moonshine and convince the stillers to stop making it.
Amy wanders to Junior Higgins' still and puts salt into the mash ruining the whisky. She goes back another time and gets caught red-handed by Tom Higgins who takes the salt and warns her not to do it again.
If widow Brown gets better i will never make whisky again.
The preacher sends revenuers to see if he is making whisky but his dad finds out and hides all of the evidence filling the jars with buttermilk instead and tricks them into thinking he doesn't make any moonshine.
You're right. I will no longer make whisky.
The revenuers go away only to come back later to catch them making moonshine and take him to court where he has to promise not to make corn whisky anymore. Little did they know he decided to make fruit brandy instead.
During a corn shucking someone gets drunk and causes the barn to light on fire injuring widow Brown. Because of this Tom decides if widow Brown gets better he will never make whisky again
Tom's dad beats him but then decides his son is right and decides to make chairs instead of whisky.
