Information is important, I believe children should be able to read all books.
Hey, did you hear about them banning that book that had rape in it? Woo!
Wouldn't you rather kids know about rape to avoid it? What about drugs? Shouldn't they know the health problems that come with the happy feeling?
I never thought about it that way. The book, In the Time of Butterflies, shouldn't be banned then.
Education is a freedom that we have been given that cannot be taken away by the government! When we ban and censor books we are exercising the "right to force onto students certain values determined by what purports to be the dominant culture."
On average, there are 288,820 victim's (age 12 or older) of rape and sexual assault each year in the United States! This number could go down drastically if even half of these people were educated on the dangers of strangers.
