  • Filthy Rich Vs. Filthy Poor By Cayden Harman
  • Honey, let's go eat dinner and go home. I need new robes.
  • Our only pair of clothes are soaked.  I'm so starving standing out here.
  • We live in a stone and marble home. Our kitchen has murals and statues decorating it. We host various dinner parties.
  • Housing
  • We live in small dank apartments. We had to cook on small portable grills. It would fill our homes with smoke.
  • For dinner, I might eat mice in honey, snails in milk, roasted parrots with dates, and salted jellyfish. I may sometimes eat at the Thermopolia.
  • Food and Drink
  • We have to cook on small grills. We eat at the Thermopolia. For dinner, we eat a fish chunk with some asparagus.
  • Law and Order
  • We try to blend in on the dangerous poor streets. We wear torn robes to conceal our wealth. We get better treatment legally than the poor people.
  • We are not given equal punishment. We live on a poor street where murder, stealing and assault occur. Anyone can accuse others of a crime.
  • Education
  • We would have walked very early in the morning. School lasted until 2 or 3 o' clock.  I learned about math, Latin, Greek, and music.
  • I was sent to work instead of going to school. We would have to work for our families Poor slaves would teach students.
  • We lived in huts and had small farms.  We labored on estates, trying to earn money.  Slaves did most of the farming. They also worked for the rich Romans.
  • Farming
  • We have slaves doing our farming.  We owned country estates, called villas.  90 percent of Romans lived in the country. We produced most of the Empire's food.
