  • I am Ghenghis Khan, leader of the great Mongols, and we effected the world in many ways.
  • In Europe...
  • -Trade led to the spread of Bubonic Plague, which ended many lives but gave survivors new possibilities -An enormous variety of new consumer goods, agriculture, weaponry, religion, and medical science became available in Europe -Khanates conquered most of Europe
  • Negative Effects on Europe
  • -Depopulated some regions & confiscated crops and livestock -Bubonic Plague spread from trade routes, killed 25% of Europe's population
  • Positive Effects in Europe
  • -Pax Magnolia: a century of peace when neighboring countries were all under Mongol rule, Silk Road trading, wealth & cultural diffusion occurred -Trade increased heavily under Pax Magnolia, bringing wealth and the addition of new goods into Europe 
  • Spread of Technology in Europe
  • -Cultural Ciffusiom promoted identity; one could convert to Islam, Christianity, Buddhism, or Taoism legally -Silk Road allowed for scholars to travel, like Marco Polo -Papermaking, printing, gunpowder manufacturing all spread through Silk Road -Silk Road: original melting pot of religion & culture
