  • In 1990, Iraq invaded the country of Kuwait.
  • Iraq wanted complete access to the Persian Gulf and control over Kuwait's oil resources/industry.
  • The U.S and some other countries formed an alliance to try and fight Iraq and get Kuwait their land back.
  • The U.S and other nations attacked Iraq and were able to recapture Kuwait by defeating Iraq in just 6 weeks.

  • The Iraqi government agreed to a truce and withdrew just before setting nearly 1000 oil fields on fire in Kuwait.

  • When the conflict ended and Iraq left Kuwait, both Kuwait and Iraq were left in very bad condition. Kuwait's oil supply was failing and Iraq was forced to stop making biological weapons and agreed to stop making nuclear weapons so that embargos that were put on Iraq would be lifted.
