In September 1843, Phineas Gage was working with his crew near an railroad track. He was an construction foreman. They would blow up stuff by using this thing that had a fuse then the sand then the gunpowder. The sand or gun powder was so dry that if something were to touch it it would explode.
While they were working,Phineas took a break near the hole. He was sitting there watching everybody and he was holding an tamping iron. A tamping iron is an 13 pound iron rod with a sharp end.
Then something distracted him, it could have been an animal or even a girl. He dropped the tamping iron onto the hole. Then it shoot up and wet through is left check and out is forehead. He didn't die after it happened he got up and was talking to his crew members who were trying to help him.
They lifted him up and took him the the carriage. Then they went to the town. When the arrived at the hospital it took the doctor to get to Phineas about 30 minutes. Phineas was sitting in the front of the hospital waiting for the doctor.
When the doctor got there he was talking to Phineas about what happened. Then he was trying to drain the blood and the parts of brain to see the brain and how the brain was. 17 tea cup sizes came out of Phineas's brain.
After the accident Phineas Gage was no longer himself, he later died 11 years later. Phineas was famous after his story came out.
