At the beginning of the story, Ralph was more focused all around. He had a lot of things in mind and didn't only focus on the fire. After he found out that the fire was burnt out and that the ship was gone, that's all he cared about. He also became very strict. Now, he yells at everybody and makes the fire the number one priority. Golding intended Ralph to symbolize leadership in a civilization. This scene shows it because he takes charge and yells at Jack for not keeping the fire lit. This moment is important to Ralph because it is the moment where he really starts to lose it. He begins more focused on the fire and escaping. He also has a lot shorter temper now that this happened.
