  • Jesus wants to forgive our sins. We come to Jesus for forgiveness in the Sacrament of Reconciliation. In this sacrament, we confess our sins to a priest. He forgives us in Jesus’ name.
  • What does the sacrament celebrate?
  • The keys signify when Jesus said to Peter "I will give you the keys to the kingdom of heaven". The raised hand is done by the priest in the Prayer of Absolution to remove your sins. The sign of the cross is given by the priest as he recites the final words of the Prayer of Absolution. A scourging whip symbolize when Jesus was crucified he was scourged at the pillar.
  • What are the sacraments symbols and rituals?
  • Why would someone want to participate in this sacrament? What are its benefits?
  • Reconciliation is called a healing sacrament for a reason! Everyone sins. That is why Jesus died on the cross; to save us from our sins! Someone would want to participate in Reconciliation because it is a sacramental way to admit our mistakes, receive forgiveness, and try again. There is nothing more beneficial to one's conscious than participating in Reconciliation.
