"Hunting? General Zaroff, what you speak of is murder." pg 225
Rainsford and Whitney decide to go hunting in the Amazon, they are on a boat and enjoying themselves.
"Thank you, I'm a hunter not a murder." pg 225
While Whitney is sleeping, Rainsford hears 3 gunshots and stand up to see where they came from. When he stood up he dropped his pipe, and he fell in the water. As he is swimming he reaches shore and sees a chateau.
"I suggest you wear Moccasins; they leave a poorer trail. I suggest too that you avoid the big swamp in the southeast corner of the island." pg 229
When Rainsford approaches the chateau, a big man named Ivan greets him. He is later greeted by General Zaroff.
During the hunt...
"Rainsford, if you are within the sound of my voice, let me congratulate you." pg 232
General Zaroff recognizes Rainsford from his book he wrote about hunting. Zaroff goes on to explain how he became dissatisfied with hunting, so he decides to hunt the Most Dangerous Game. The most dangerous game, to Rainsfords surprise, is humans.
General Zaroff challenges Rainsford to a hunt. General Zaroff has prepared acres of land that he hunts his captives on. General Zaroff also gives Rainsford two pieces of advice.

Rainsfords' hunting experience and traps work to his advantage. While one of the traps kills Ivan and a dog, and another injures Zaroff's shoulder, it buys him some time.
