  • Oh no! I'm feeling shortness of breath and severe chest pain.
  • Pleurisy? Oh no.
  • You have: Pleurisy
  • A condition where the pleura becomes inflamed, pleurisy causes sharp chest pain that worsens during breathing.
  • See a doctor.
  • Hey, doctor. I think I may have pleurisy. I need your help.
  • Yes, all of those.
  • Have you experienced sharp chest pain, shallow breathing, dry coughing, chills, and a loss of appetite?
  • We'll have to give you a decubitis X-ray before we can do anything, make sure it's not something else.
  • Okay.
  • Yep, looks like your pleura is inflamed. Your pleural membrane is rubbing together like sandpaper. There's fluid in your chest.
  • It's pleurisy.
  • I've had pneumonia.
  • Pleurisy is caused by a number of things. Do you have a history of lupus, pneumonia,  or poor liver function?
  • How did this happen? My lungs are very healthy.
