  • "The year was 2018, and everybody was finally equal. It was in that clammy month that the Handicap-General men took George and Hazel Bergeron's fourteen-year-old son, Harrison away" (Vonnegut 1).
  • "The weren't really good - no better than anybody else would have been anyways. They were burdened with sash weights and bags of bird shot, and their faces were masked, so hat no one, seeing a free graceful gesture or a pretty face, would feel like something the cat dug in" (Vonnegut 2).
  • "Harrison stood in the center of the studio. The know of the uprooted studio was still in his hand" (Vonnegut 6).
  • "Harrison tore the straps of his handicap like a wet tissue paper, tore straps guaranteed to support 5,000 pounds" (Vonnegut 6).
  • "The Handicap-General, came into the studio with a double barreled ten gauge shot gun. She fired twice, and the Emperor and the Empress were dead before they hit the floor" (Vonnegut 8).
