  • Siddhartha Gautama was royalty. When he was born the fortuneteller told the king that he would either be a King (Like his father) or he would be a spiritual leader. His father didn't want his son to be a spiritual leader so he did everything he could to protect him from the outside world.
  • Siddhartha was raised in wealth and luxury. He was always protected from the outside world and never saw anyone that was poor, sick, homeless, or sad. Whenever he went around town guards would be in front of him clearing the path so he would never see anything bad. Once he was 16 he got married and had a child.
  • You will stop this meditation right away and go home!
  • No.
  • One day when he was 29 he secretly escaped without any guards and witnessed the real world. He saw the four sights which were an old man, a sick man, a corpse, and an ascetic. Siddhartha claimed shortly after, "All the joy inside of me had died."
  • Lets focus in trying to reach enlightenment
  • Siddhartha was devastated he then decided to be an ascetic but 5 years later he gave up the religion. He barely ate all he had was 1 grain of rice and one jujube fruit. He claimed that "If I went to feel my stomach all I could feel was my spine." After that he fainted form lack of food.
  • Siddhartha realized that what he was doing was not right, he spent 49 days meditating under a tree to find his destiny. He was visited by Mara the god of desire and temptation be she was denied. She attacked him with showers of rocks but that only made him meditate more. After 49 long hard days he reached the state of enlightenment.
  • After these 49 days Siddhartha went back to his family, he taught them what he had been learning and helped them reach the path of enlightenment. After they all achieved that they then went all over the world to teach other people what they had learned.
