Albert's father had made a bet with a farmer that in a week Joey will be able to plough. When he starts being aggressive towards Joey, Joey kicks him.

Albert tells Joey that there might be a war and if there is he wants to be a soldier because he thinks he will look good in a uniform and he wants to march to music. He also thinks Joey will make a good war horse. Albert's father wants to fight in the war but he is too old.
Albert's father is worried about money because he can't pay the mortgage and he thinks that Joey is not worth the money he paid. So he is going to try to sell Joey!
