Storyboard Text

  • While driving home, Dave was caught by a police car swerving. As Dave's BAC was >.08, he was deemed legally intoxicated and arrested for DUI. Being his first offense, Dave faced up to 6 months of jail/probation (with 100 hrs community service), a $500-$1,000 fine, and a license suspension of 45 days followed by a year of ignition interlock.
  • At his next party, Dave was hesitant to drink and drive again, but he ultimately decided to.
  • -
  • Being his second offense, Dave was in much more trouble. He faced up to 2 years in prison with a minimum of 120 days AND probation with 100 hours of community service. Additionally, he was fined from $1,000-$4,000, had his license suspended for 45 days, and had to drive with an ignition interlock for 3 years.
  • Asleep at the wheel and on the sidewalk, Dave proved to be a danger to society by his third offense. He was arrested again, faced 3 years in prison AND probation with 100 hours of community service, fines of $2,000-$8,000, and had his license revoked. He was only eligible to get a license back after 2 years, and at that point he'd have to drive with an ignition interlock for 15 years.
  • So why am I telling you this? Well for one, I want you to know how to refuse getting in a car with someone like Dave. Two good ways to do this are to tell a drunk person that you will ride with another friend who lives close to your house (even if it’s not true), or to say that you will use a ride-share service like Uber.
  • The other reason I'm telling you this is so that you don't end up like Dave and imitate his disastrous driving. Doing so could result in negative immediate effects such as the paying of fines or injury from crashing, but also long term effects such as loss of trust with loved ones and having to endure prison.
