Storyboard Text

  • "I had it all and I lost it quick"
  • This scene display that Marty had a successful job, but after one year, the business burned down. This could be imagery, because he somewhat describes his life and how he earned money
  • Joliet
  • This scene shows that Marty's brother have to go back and serve for the Army. The literary device that was used was simile by comparing Stephen to a brick outhouse. This literary device can create a effect of characterization.
  • "The Army to remember Stephen had signed up to join it... He was built like a brick outhouse. He had a nose big and sharp as a hatchet..."
  • Two years later...
  • "Whacked it up, bent the tailpipe double, Ripped the muffler loose. I threw dirt in the carburetor and I ripped all the electric tape off the seats"
  • In this scene, Marty decides to mess the car up with a hammer. He did this, because he wanted to get Stephen attention. Stephen came back from the Army after 2 years. This literary device could be Imagery, because he described what he did to the car. 
  • "No. make me."
  • Marty and Stephen fights. Stephen wants Marty to have the car for good, but Marty don't want that. This could be imagery, because it have good description of the fight. This can create an effect of mood, which means it would give a angry feeling.
  • "Take that car."
  • "he grabs my jacket and rips the arm loose. He socks my jaw so hard I feel like it swings loose."
  • After they're mini fight, they decide to spend time with each other by drinking a lot of beers. This scene contains a lot of imagery and simile. This could create an effect of characterization and gives us a sight of Stephen personality.
  • "He jumps up then and starts swinging his legs out from the knees like a fancydancer, then he's down doing something between a grouse dance and a bunny hop..."
  • "I'm an Indian!"
  • This last scene is when Stephen jumps in the water and Marty couldn't find him. This means that Stephen drowned. Marty and Stephen relationship were just now getting back to the way it was. This scene has a lot imagery and repetition creates the effect of tone. In the story, Marty had a tone of sadness.
  • "Then he's gone."
  • "The headlights reach in as they go down, searching.. And then there's only the water, the sound of it going and running and going running and running
