In 1840 William Hobson arrived in New Zealand to organise a treaty between the two country's for peace among the land.

I just wanted my land back
On the 6th of February 1840 Maori Chiefs and British council members gathered to sign the treaty of Waitangi.
In 1845 there was conflict between the British colonists and Maori indigenous over there land right thats why the "land wars" is the name of the battle.
During the war there was an estimate of about 2990 deaths 736 of the deaths were British and 2254 of them were Maori.
In Auckland there is a statue called Zealandia it says "In memory of the brave men belonging to the imperial and colonial forces and the friendly Maoris who gave their lives for the country during the New Zealand Wars 1845 - 1872. "Through war they won the peace we know."
Now in New Zealand there is peace people walk through the streets with out a worry in mind and they dont think about that war that happend many years ago but those men and women structured this country the way it is.
