Esperanza was young and didn't mind where she lived until a nun sort of shaming her being poor asked where she lived and then said "You live there?" But in a mean way. Until then she realized that she needed something better and since then she never appreciated what she had.
Esperanza was lonely and had no friend until two girls about her age were asking for 5 dollars to buy a bike and in exchange they'll be best friends. So she took some money from her little sister Nenny and since then the three girls have been friends.
On one the three girl adventures was when a lady gave them three pairs of high heels the girl were interested and so they tried them on. At first they liked all the attention but then it was way to much attention and they decide to run back home and never wear high heels.
One time Esperanza had gone to a quinceñera she had everything new but her shoes. At the party there was her uncle which is a total show of and wanted to show the crowed the dance with Esperanza. At first she didn't want to dance because she hated her shoes but then she gain confidence and she began to dance with her uncle.
At Esperanza's first job she was lonly until a strange old man that worked there said that she could sit with him at lunch and so she did but the old man then said it was his birthday and to give him a kiss for his birthday so she did but the old man then press his lips on her lips and did't let her go.
Esperanza then gas another friend that abuse by her father and covers her scars with makeup. She believes that the only way to escape is by get married with a man that has everything she get married but is to abused by her husband and is not allowed to go out.
