  • The narrator swims endless laps in the river between his house and the Vermont shore to win Sheila's attention.
  • WTH is he doing? He looks so dumb.
  • I'm going to impress her with my beautiful flutter kicks.
  • He finally has the courage to ask Sheila out while she is playing baseball.
  • Hi, there is a band playing tomorrow night in Dixford at nine. Want to go?
  • Umm do you have a car?
  • We will go by canoe.
  • Uh sure, whatever.
  • The narrator is picking up Sheila at the dock, but she is second guessing going by canoe.
  • No, it's fine. The canoe won't tip and it's faster this way.
  • Dude, we can go in my Dad's car.
  • Sheila asks what is that sound and he tells her it's bass. He also says a few things about bass to show off but Sheila thinks it's dumb.
  • Bass. They come at night to chase frogs and things. Micropetrus Salmonides.
  • What's that sound?
  • A big bass got hooked to the rod and he is trying to let it loose.
  • Uhh, Bats.
  • OMG! This is the biggest bass i have ever hooked!
  • What was that? That buzzing sound?
  • The narrator is trying to get closer to the shallow sandbar were he thinks he can loose the fish.
  • Um neat...
  • OMG! I went to a party there. These fraternity men...
  • He realises that the bass is still hooked after going through the shallow sandbar.
  • WHAT! How is the bass still there!
  • You know, I have to be careful with my...
  • When they get to the dock, the narrator pulled a penknife and cut the line in half. He got a sick feeling in his stomach while watching the rod unbend. Meanwhile Sheila is stretching.
  • I think I'm going to be sick.
  • Ahhgg...
  • When they got to the fair, they danced once or twice. Then Sheila went home in another guys car. At the end of the month, the narrator stopped having a crush on Sheila.
  • Yoo! Im going home in Eric Caswell's Corvette. Thanks for tonight. Your a funny kid, you know that?
  • Uh waoh okay.
