Salva Dut,11 years old, flees from his school and village after the civil war reaches his home, and ends up walking to a refugee camp. He is scared and confused.
After a long and brutal walk, Salva arrives at a refugee camp in Ethiopia. He stays there for six years, only to be forced out by Ethiopian soldiers. During his next walk, he became the leader of 1,500 boys. He is determined to survive.
After yet another long and brutal walk, Salva and the boys arrive at another refugee camp in Kenya. Salva leaves that camp for another one, for the last had been brutal. At this new one, he learns english and is chosen to go live in America. He is excited.
