  • I'm looking for a book about polar bears for a chemistry project, but in all the books I've read so far, there isn't a single thing that relates to what we're learning in chem.
  • Oh no! Are you sure that the topic isn't polarity? Polar bears and polarity seem easy to confuse.
  • Oh gosh! You're right! But I've been so busy thinking about those mamals, I don't know the first thing about polarity! And my project is due tomorrow!
  • Don't worry Emily, I studied polarity in my last unit, so I'd be happy to teach you all you need to know.  Take a seat.
  • Correct! And polarity comes into play, since it is a measure of how equally the electrons in a bond are shared between the two atoms.
  • So you remember that in a covalent bond, the electrons are shared, right?
  • Right. But they aren't always equally shared.
