After many pain staking hours, Mommy and Elli finally arrive in Augsburg
When they step out of the box car they are greeting with guards with faces of confusion. At first the guards didn't realize they were the women that they were expecting. Then the guards were confused on were their luggage was. The guards at the camp obviously did not know the living conditions of the other camps.
Where is your luggage?
We have no luggage
When Elli and Mommy were walking to the showers a guard asked Mommy her name. When she responded with her ID number, the guard seemed confused then asked for her real name. Then when the guard asked her to move a little faster, Mommy said that she couldn't because she was partially paralyzed at Auschwitz. Then the guard said it was okay. These 'guards' are not apart of the SS but instead apart of the official German army.
Do not worry, here you will get better. We will take good care of you.
“No. I’m unable to walk faster. I received an injury in Auschwitz. I’m partially paralyzed.”
The guards lead them to the shower room where there are real shower heads, soap, warm water, and towels all for them to use.
We’ve landed in paradise.
Girls, my soap is perfumed!
After their showers, Elli and Mommy along with the other prisoners are fed noodles, dumplings, and sauerkraut. This was the first time in a long time they had had a real meal in real dishes
This must be heaven. What will tomorrow bring?
Elli and Mommy lay down in the first real bed they have had for months. They drift off to sleep with clean bodies and not quite as hungry stomachs while wondering what other wonders ae to come tomorrow.
