Storyboard Text

  • Due to war and starvation in China, we will have to migrate to the United States and participate in the Gold Rush.
  • We brought over 25,000 people to try to find a good life for all of us.
  • So far, we have faced a lot of hardship in the United States. We have mainly faced racial discrimination. Some things that the people here have done is making us work way overtime in very harsh conditions, and definitely not given us the rights that we have deserved and that are in the Constitution. White people were favored over us.
  • We left very many legacies in the west. We helped build the Transcontinental Railroad, some of us struck rich in the Gold Rush, and we were able to bring Chinese culture to the United States of America.
  • We also did a lot for this country and this country did a lot for us. We were able to migrate away from China successfully and some of us struck rich. We were able to get official educations, too. In 1854, Yung Wing was the first Chinese to graduate from an American University.
  • There were not very many women to migrate to the US. There were over 24,000 people from China to migrate in the span of four years and only a small number were women.
  • When we first traveled to the United States, we worked hard-working but low-paying jobs. A few example of the jobs we had to work is railroaders, agricultural jobs, and factory workers.
