  • "Oh yes you can doodle, All you got to do is try. Now come on." (Hurst 318) Our narrator is confident. He is confident Doodle can walk sometime. He is trying. He was also the one that was confident that Doodle could start to crawl.
  • Actions: Narrator
  • "So I began to make plans to kill him by smothering him with a pillow" (Hurst 317).Our narrator (William's brother) is selfish because she would rather his brother be dead than not all there in the head.
  • Looks: William
  • "His eyes were round with wonder as he gazed about him, and his little hands began to stroke the rubber grass. He began to cry" (Hurst 318). Our narrator is caring. His brother decided to share his favorite place with him. Since he shared his favorite place with him, Doodle gets overwhelmed by the entire situation.
  • It is so pretty, so pretty!
  • " For a long time, it seemed forever, I lay there crying, sheltering my fallen scarlet Ibris from the heresy of the rain." (Hurst 324). The narrator is sad. He ran from his brother and when he came back his little brother was dead.
  • "He seemed all head, with a tiny body which was red and shriveled like an old man's" (Hurst 316).William is dependent on everyone around him. He was born with a lot of medical problems, so his family will need to take care of him.
