  • Ismene doesn´t want Antigone to break laws made for the public good. Antigone is loyal to honoring her brother instead of Ismene.
  • ¨They mean a great deal to me; but I have no strength to break laws that were made for the public good¨. (1023, 62-63)
  • ¨That must be you excuse, I suppose. But as for me, I will bury the brother I love¨. (1023, 64-65)
  • ¨No one values friendship more highly than I; but we must remember that friends made at the risk of wrecking our ship are not real friends at all¨ (1027, 27-30)
  • Creon is saying that he puts his country, which is citizenship, before anything else.
  • Another way she is loyal to her brother, is that she doesn´t want to care about anything else, and just wants to bury her brother.
  • ¨if I had left my my brother Lying in death unburied, I should have suffered¨(1035, 70-71)
  • Although Haemon might support Antigone, he shows his father Creon that he is loyal to him.
  • ¨I am your son, Father. You are my guide. You make things clear for me, and I obey you¨(1041, 8-9)
  • Creon thinks that Ismene is bad news, and is trying to trick him.
  • "Snake in my ordered house, sucking my blood"(1038, 125)
  • "Here you see the father murdering, the murdered son- and all my civic wisdom"(1059, 88-90)
  • Creon used his civic wisdom for the government, but it led to the death of his family.
