  •                             Hunter-Gatherers
  • Tools/Technolgy
  • Agriculture Revolution
  • Hunter-Gatherers were groups whose food supply depended on hunting animals and collecting plant foods. They were early hominins that originated in Africa 2 million years ago.  Hominins were the earliest living humans, they would have to go out and hunt their food in order to have something to eat. They would also eat plants such as berries and leaves and would catch fish.
  • Early Farming Methods
  • The Hominins technology advanced as they evolved. They learned to make better weapons to use when hunting. They made more variety of weapons such as stone spears, knives, and fish hooks. They also had digging sticks to help pry plants loose at the roots.
  • What they did for fun
  • Also known as the Neolithic Revolution the agricultural revolution was a great way of producing foods in larger ratios. Before hunter-gatherers would have to look for food constantly but with growing crops they wouldn't have to and they would have larger portions to feed everyone.  This great discovery lead to new ways of producing food and farming. This lead us to become food producers instead of food gatherers.
  • Civilzation
  • An early method of farming was slash-and-burn farming. This type of farming involved cutting trees and grass then burning it to clear fields. The ashes from the burning trees and grass fertilized the soil making it great for growing crops. They would then repeat the process when the soil was no longer good for growing crops.
  • You would think that the modern humans wouldn't have time to be making art and jewelry but they did. They would make necklaces and even cave paintings. Cave paintings would mostly consist of animals. They even created music, researchers found a wooden flute dating back 43,000 to 82,000 years old. All of these findings show that the hominins had more capabilities then we initially thought.
  • Civilization is often defined as a complex culture. Because of the food surplus in the groups, people were able to pursue other jobs and develop other skills. They were able to create art and find new discoveries such as bronze. Social classes were also developed because of the evolution of the hominids.
