Natural Selection: Hummingbirds By Cecelia O'Sullivan
The beak size of the birds is genetic variation
My beak won't fit in all the way! I can't get enough food!
The bird with the thick, short beak can't get as much food as the bird with the long, thin beak.
Mine is thin and long so it goes all the way in!
Eventually, the thick beaked bird dies after not getting enoug food.
The bird with the long, thin beak passes that trait on to her future generations.
The birds survive better with the long, thin beaks.
