  • In 1940 Elie Wiesel was a twelve-year-old boy who lived through the Holocaust. He was born in Sighet, Transylvania on september 30 1928. He lived with his Mother, Father, and three sisters.
  • Elie Wiesel believed that everyone was put on this earth for a purpose. Elie also believed his purpose was to study Kabalah and Jewish law. In 1941 he becomes great with Moshe, his Rabbi (his teacher).
  • In 1942 the Hungarian government sent for all foreign jews and they were deported to Poland.  Elie's friend Moshe escaped and returned to Sighet to tell everyone that those who were deported were executed. Nobody believed him, they thought he was mad.
  • In 1944 the Germans moved into Seghet and took over people lives and businesses. Jews were forced to wear the star of David. Jewish homes were raided and families were forced into ghettos. Elie and his family stayed in the Ghetto from March-June 1944.
  • In June of 1944, Elie's father had been told that all of the Jews were being deported to another place. They were taken out of the Ghettos and onto a train with no food or water. They were packed in the carriages like animals. They arrived at Auschwitz. 
  • Nazi guards started separating the men and woman. Elie and his father lied about their age so that they wouldn't be separated.  Unfortunately, his two sisters were separated from them and sent to another concentration camp and his mother and little sister were taken away and killed. This was the last time he saw his mother and little sister T
