In a shocking move, during 218 BC Carthaginian general Hannibal led his men and elephants from Spain through the Alps and to Italy. Along the way he defeated many roman troops but many Italian tribes decided to join him. He never invaded Rome though because of his army being low in people.

In 149 BC, with the suspicion of Carthage reviving, Cato the Elder wanted to wipe Carthage off the map. Despite 52 years of peace, the Romans attacked Carthage and easily won in 3 years. The land was salted and people were put in slavery.
