Once they have woken up from their slumber, Minho and the Gladers try to escape the room. The Gladers get the idea of breaking the lock to escape. Frypan and Thomas are hesitant at the idea of escaping the room, think that maybe it was locked for a reason.
Gally uses a fire extinguisher to break the lock on the door. This event propels the action because this moment is what led to the group finding out what had happened to the people that saved them from the maze.
After escaping the room, The Gladers have come to realize that the people who saved them were hung up to the ceiling, dead. This leads to a lot of suspicion of what's going on. In this scene the Gladers come to a realization that it's not over and they have to face a bigger obstacle.
I HATE YOU, GO AWAY!
Thomas finds a note with Teresa's name written on it with other information about her and her role. The word "Betrayer" written on the paper really stood out to Thomas, and he couldn't wrap his mind around what it could really mean.

In this scene Thomas realizes that wicked built 2 mazes and that Aris was there Teresa in the other group. He also comes to find out that he wasn't supposed to make it this far and should've been killed. This event propels the action because this was the moment the group finds out that there is much more involved with wicked.
But that would make Aris their version of Teresa. And this Beth sounded like their version of Gally, who killed chuck. with a knife. did that mean that gally was supposed to have killed Thomas instead
