My family, and I enjoy our time together and try to occupy ourselves while staying up until midnight on New Years Eve. My cousin Sammy and I talk together. We sit by the fire in the den of my grandpa's house.
Exposition: Basic Situation
My family and I are socializing in the kitchen when my cousin Eden comes in and tells us its snowing. We had given up hope that this would happen. Sammy and I are unassuming as she comes in.
We all go outside in wonder, and realize what a miracle it is that it happens in Northern California. My siblings and cousins pummel me with snow balls, and we have a fight.
We go to bed, sad that it's all over, knowing it was all just a lucky, temporary moment. But the kids and I wake up the next morning to my dad telling us it snowed again last night, and we race outside.
All of my family and I go outside and walk around the through the field, orchards, to the river, through the forest. We witness how the snowfall has somehow made the landscape even more beautiful.
We go to the river, and I describe the wonderful memories. We know this is the best winter ever. I learn to treasure every moment for what it is, and know that there is always an opportunity or a time when things can be even better, I just need to have hope.
