Storyboard Text

  • We need to change something!
  • This money is worthless!  What kind of government prints money that has no value?
  • The kind that has no source of income, because it can't tax.
  • In the management of every great question he evidently took the lead in the Convention.
  • Let's do this!
  • I'm from Virginia, and I think that each state should be represented by its population.
  • Let's compromise.
  • That's not fair.  I'm from New Jersey, and obviously each state should be equal no matter how few people we have!
  • The Articles of Confederation just wasn't cutting it....
  • Why should slaves be counted if they don't vote?  Couting them will give the South too much power!
  • Not counting them will give the North too much power!
  • Let's compromise.  3/5 sounds like a nice fraction....
  • So they called another Constitutional Convention with James Madison taking the lead.
  • The president should be directly elected by the people.
  • Let's use the same compromise we did for the first one.  We'll use the same number of electors as a state has seats in either house in Congress.
  • Wouldn't you like that?  People from big states would always win.
  • The Great Compromise in which there are two houses of Congress.
  • Hey!  You don't know how hard we worked to make this!
  • We need to ratify this constitution.
  • I'm not so sure.  I'm an anit-federalist and I see lots of reasons why I don't like it.
  • What about slaves?  How do they count towards population?
  • How should the president be elected?
  • Finally done, the constitution went to the states.  Eventually each state ratified the constitution.
