Storyboard Text

  • Napoleon is born in Corsica, Italy in 1769. He attended a military school in France. Napoleon supported the French revolution and became a general.
  • Napoleon uses his status as national hero to take over the government (coup d'etat) in 1799. He declared himself Emperor of the French in 1804. He then made the Continental System that said no country in Europe could trade with Great Britain so that France could beat GB economically.
  • During Napoleon's time as emperor of France, he had taken control of Belgium, the Netherlands, Switzerland, and most of Western Germany and northern Italy.
  • Later he faced Russia because Russia defied Napoleon's Continental System, but Napoleon's attack failed and then the British teamed up with Russia to defeat Napoleon and were successful. So Napoleon was exiled to an island called Elba. Then France became a monarchy again but with pre-Revolutionary borders.
