Sacajawea was born in 1788 and born into the Agaidika tribe.
In 1800 when Sacajawea was 12 she was kidnapped by a group of Hidatsa Indians. She was taken as a captive to a Hidatsa village. She was then later sold to French Canadian fur trader Toussaint Charbonneau for money.
When Meriweather Lewis and William Clark arrived at the Hidatsa village and they interviewed many people in the village to see who would come along on their expedition. They hired Sacajawea's husband with their understanding of Sacajawea coming along to be an Interpreter. They thought that her presence will help if they come along the encounter of native tribes. Along the way Sacajawea found her brother.
