  • Four of the most influential philosophers of this time may have been John Locke, Montesquieu, Rousseau, and Thomas Jefferson. they all had ideas like Montesquieu´s proposal to separate the government into separate divisons, and Rousseau's idea of useing social contracts
  • Once Upon A Time
  • I belive that all persons should have the right to live, liberty, and property
  • there should be a document stating the  rightsof  the people 
  • In this era the country was split up int three different social classes called the Three Estates. 1st was the royal people who were in charge, 2nd was the church, and the 3rd was made up of the commonsers.
  • I'm in charge
  • In France the king spent too much money on foreign wars and made it so that their contrary would owe money to other people, so to compensate for this the king raised the tax that the commoners had to pay.
  • My King we are in debt
  • Than raise the taxes of my people
  • The Three Estates all had a representative that would go to meetings to speek for their social class. In one meeting the Third Estate said that it was not fair to pay tax and the other classes didn't so the three had a vote, but the First and Second estate teamed up and the vote was two against one.
  • But the king locked them outside so the third estate representatives found an unlocked door to a tennis court in the building and they took an oath on it not to leave the court until the nation had a fair constitution.
  • One day the third estate demanded a meeting at the palace of Versailles to create a fair constitution for everyone including the commoners,.
  • On (July 14, 1789, in France a group of commonors got together and decided to storm the Bastille. The Bastille was one of the biggest prisons in all of France. This was good for the commonors because it supplied them with guns and more people. This Building was also a symbol of the King´s power and the ransacking of it symbolized the king had no control over the people anymore.
