  • Freud believed in ego defense mechanisms, which distort things to a more acceptable less threatening form. One specific defense mechanism is regression, moving back in psychological time.

  • Adler utilized the birth order theory, which stated that the order a child is born in impacts their personality. First born kids are rule followers, middle kids are peacekeepers, and the last born are funny.
