Objective: compare different population models Method: Teacher directed and collaborative Materials: Paper, graph paper, pencils, data tables
Ask students to identify different endangered species
Students calculate population of turkeys over a five year period given two different sets of assumptions and graph results
Have students compare results. Which population is growing faster? What assumptions caused the difference in the populations? Which result seems more realistic?
Have students try to create an equation that will calculate the number of turkeys as a function of the number of years for each of the two models
If the population of rabbits doubles every year, how many rabbits will there be in 6 years? If the population of lions increases by 2 every year, how many will there be after 6 years?
