#### Storyboard Text

• Before You Start
• Engage
• Explore
• Objective: compare different population models Method: Teacher directed and collaborative Materials: Paper, graph paper, pencils, data tables
• Explain
• Ask students to identify different endangered species
• Elaborate
• Students calculate population of turkeys over a five year period given two different sets of assumptions and graph results
• Evaluate
• Have students compare results. Which population is growing faster? What assumptions caused the difference in the populations? Which result seems more realistic?
• Have students try to create an equation that will calculate the number of turkeys as a function of the number of years for each of the two models
• If the population of rabbits doubles every year, how many rabbits will there be in 6 years? If the population of lions increases by 2 every year, how many will there be after 6 years?
