Gender Discrimination Scenario
This storyboard does not have a description.
Mary and Bob are discussing work in their office at the University of Texas when Bob mentions his salary. Mary is surprised because they both possess the same qualifications and skills, yet Mary's salary is significantly lower than Bob's.
Could Mary potentially be discriminated against in any way? (Yes, if Bob is being paid more than Mary without a justifiable reason.) What should she do?
Mary discusses her salary with her supervisor and asks about the criteria that led to the difference in salary between her and Bob. Mary reminds her supervisor that she has the same qualifications and skills as Bob, and they were both hired one week apart from each other.
OIE Office 4.302
Mary's supervisor avoids the question and assures Mary that there was thoughtful consideration when determining salaries. Mary asks her supervisor to elaborate on the thoughtful consideration that took place, but he's unable to answer.
Mary believes she's being discriminated against, but she doesn't know how to proceed because she's never been discriminated against. What can Mary do now?
Mary believes that she was hired under the same circumstances as Bob, therefore her salary should reflect that. After some consideration, she decides to file a complaint internally. (*Note: complaints can be filed internally or externally)
