Marcus overhears his coworkers at UT, Adam and Sam, laughing and telling each other jokes based on race and color. What should Marcus do?
Uncomfortable with the jokes he heard, Marcus talks to Adam and Sam in the break room. Marcus asks that they refrain from telling hurtful jokes in the workplace, but Adam and Sam fail to understand the hurtfulness of their jokes. What should Marcus do next?
Feeling uncomfortable in the workplace, Marcus decides to speak with his supervisor about the situation he's facing.
Marcus discusses his concerns with his supervisor about jokes centered around race and color. To Marcus' surprise, the supervisor tells him his coworkers "are just joking" and he needs to "lighten up."
Marcus is angry and hurt because he thought the supervisor would be fair and reasonable towards the situation. Now Marcus doesn't know what other options he has other than ignoring the jokes. What can Marcus do now?
Marcus learns that he can file a formal complaint online with the Office of Inclusion and Equity at UT.
