A man going on a long journey entrusted his property with his servants
To one servant he gave 5 coins, to the next he gave 2 and he gave 1 to the last servant. He gave the coins based on the servants abilities.
The servant with 5 coins went and traded with them and received 5 more coins. The servant with 2 coins went and traded with them and received 2 more coins. The servant with one dug a hole in the ground and buried his masters money.
When their master returned from his journey the first servant came to him and said “ Master, you entrusted me with 5 coins and I have made 5 more for you” his master happily nodded. The second servant came to him and said “Master, you entrusted me with 2 coins and I have made 2 more for you”
Their master turned to the last servant. “I’m sorry Master” he begun “I was afraid and hid your money and only have the one coin that you gave me” “You lazy, unfaithful servant!” Their Master yelled “you could have at least put the coin in the bank and yet you say that you were scared and hid it. You shall be punished”
This parable tells us to use the gifts God has given us and to take risks for the Kingdom of God and not to hide our talents in the dirt. Jesus is telling us to use talents to our advantage and also to the advantage of the Kingdom of God
