  • The Roman Republic was the era of classical Roman civilization beginning with the overthrow of the Roman Kingdom, traditionally dated to 509 BC, and ending in 27 BC with the establishment of the Roman Empire.
  • The Roman Empire was founded when Augustus Caesar proclaimed himself the first emperor of Rome in 31BC and came to an end with the fall of Constantinople in 1453CE. An empire is a political system in which a group of people are ruled by a single individual, an emperor or empress.
  • Roman citizens were divided up into two distinct classes: the plebeians and the patricians. The patricians were the wealthy upper class people. Everyone else was considered a plebeian.
  • The Big Idea The Romans developed a complex society in which different classes of people lived. The Big Idea Christianity arose in Roman-occupied Judea and spread throughout the Roman Empire. The Big Idea Internal problems and invasions spurred the division and decline of the Roman Empire.
  • Here are some of the causes of the fall of the Roman Empire: The politicians and rulers of Rome became more and more corrupt. Infighting and civil wars within the Empire. Attacks from barbarian tribes outside of the empire
  • The growth of the Roman Empire spread Latin language throughout Europe. ... Because Latin was the language of the Roman Catholic Church and of arcade- mics, it naturally influenced other languages even the non-Romance languages. Romans most lasting and great contribution to the western civilization is the law.
