  • General Beauregard, and The Confederates States Bombarded Fort Sumter, and the return gunfire and surrender buy the US, started the American Civil War
  • Abraham Lincoln wrote The Emancipation Proclamation, which paved a way to total abolition of slavery in the US. The aim of the war changed to freeing slaves in addition to keeping the Union united.
  • At the Battle of Gettysburg, General George G Meade, led a Union victory. With more than 50,000 casualties during the 3-day battle, it was the bloodiest battle of the American Civil War.
  • On April 9, 1865, Confederate General Robert E. Lee surrendered his Army of Northern Virginia to Union General Ulysses S. Grant.
