The generator converts mechanical energy into electrical energy. . The electric motor does the complete opposite thing to what the generator does, it converts electrical energy into mechanical energy, which is basically physical movement.

Generators turn mechanical energy to electrical energy using a process called ‘induction’. A bit of wire is spun between two opposite magnets and as that happens an electric current is made, which can be used to power electronic devices. However it’s different with an electric motor. Electric motors generate magnetic fields with an electric current through a thing called a coil. The magnetic field then generates a force with a magnet that causes movement or spinning that powers the motor. Electromagnetism is the opposite in the motor and the generator.
